Michelle Trachtenberg’s Cause of Death Revealed
New details in the investigation into Michelle Trachtenberg's death have been uncovered.
Nearly two months after the Gossip Girl actress was found dead in her New York City apartment at age 39, her cause of death was ammended to be determined as "complications of diabetes mellitus," the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed to NBC News April 16.
For reference, diabetes mellitus is a condition where blood glucose (sugar) levels are too high because the body either doesn't produce enough insulin or can't use the insulin it produces effectively, according to Cleveland Clinic.
After completing a review of the original autopsy test results, the medical examiner also confirmed to NBC that her manner of death has been ruled as natural.
Trachtenberg was found dead in her home on the morning of Feb. 26 after officials responded to a 911 call.
Shortly after, the actress' cause of death was ruled as "undetermined," the New York City Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to E! News at the time. Trachtenberg's family objected to an autopsy, according to People, citing the medical examiner's office, which led to the ruling.
Following her untimely passing, many of Michelle’s former costars and friends took to social media to express their grief.
Blake Lively, who played the Serena van der Woodsen to Michelle’s Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, honored her memory by reflecting on the first day she met the actress over 15 years ago.
"She was electricity," Blake wrote on a Feb. 26 Instagram Story. "You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200%."
And the rest of the CW show’s cast shared Blake’s sentiment, with Chace Crawford, Kevin Zegers and Ed Westwick posting heartbreaking tributes.

"Michelle was one of a kind," Chace, who portrayed Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl, wrote on Instagram. "I remember her coming on set for the first time and just absolutely owning it. She was a force of nature and just so so unapologetically funny and magnetic.. remembering those years with a big smile. Just a terrible loss. Love you."
But before she joined the Upper East Siders, Michelle rose to fame with her memorable roles in Harriet the Spy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ice Princess. And some of the costars that had the pleasure of watching her grow up also expressed their sadness, including Kim Cattrall, who played ice skating coach Tina Harwood to Michelle’s Casey Carlyle in the 2005 Disney film.
"Rest in peace,” the Sex and the City actress wrote alongside an old photo of them together on set and a red heartbreak emoji, “sweet Michelle."
